Bhaktapur, locally referred to as Khwopa and historically known as Bhadgaon, is a city situated in the eastern corner of the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, approximately 13 kilometers from the capital, Kathmandu. It is noted as the smallest municipality in Nepal both by size and in terms of population density.

Nagarkot is a village in central Nepal, located at the edge of the Kathmandu Valley. It offers spectacular views of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest, particularly at sunrise and sunset. The area features trails through scrubland rich in butterflies and is home to the ancient Changunarayan Temple, a pagoda-style site dedicated to Vishnu and a significant Hindu pilgrimage location.

Listed among Nepal's dangerous highways, the Araniko highway links Kathmandu to the China border and is characterized by steep slopes. It experiences significant landslides and road accidents, particularly during the monsoon season.
